Tucked behind an unassuming and easily-missed façade on Dean Street, Duck Soup is what you’d get if you crossed a French wine bar with a Brooklyn coffee shop. It’s the epitome of the understated and exudes wood-worked charm. OK, so there’s a little bit of style over comfort – those cute metal stools at the bar require poker-straight posture – but come on, it looks damn good. Tastes damn good too. Perch at the bar (backs straight please) and order a selection of plates to share from the diminutive and daily-changing menu. Think simple, seasonal and reasonable. Almost a sin, then, not to accompany the food with a bottle of the bio-dynamic wines stacked on the shelves. As is so common in Soho these days, the booking policy is tiresome. You can reserve at lunch but at dinner only for parties of 3 or more.
