Kitted out like a classic NY steak joint this place oozes understated opulence. It’s all dark woods, soft leather and giant slabs of meat. And this Russian-owned steak house knows its meat. It has its own ageing room for Pete’s sake and offers a great variety both in terms of cut and provenance. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find more of a meat lover’s paradise in London, even dare I say it, at Hawksmoor. A fave amongst city slickers and well-heeled Mayfair types the place packs out at lunch and dinner so reservations are essential. Once you’ve nabbed a table, sink into the deep banquettes and settle down for a long and boozy afternoon/evening. As with any steak house worth its salt, the prices are wince-worthy. The exceptionally good Goodman burger at 14 quid is a good way to make a meal there more affordable for anyone feeling the pinch.
