Mark Hix is a master of hospitality. His restaurants buzz with joie de vivre and more than a little cool factor, and Hix Soho is no exception.Famously chummy with most of the British art establishment, this place drips with curatable pieces. Just entering the room makes you feel a touch cooler. The food – unapologetically British and delightfully macho – is not the best you’ll get in London, but eating at Hix is just so very, irrisistably fun; especially if you can sneak downstairs to the uber-stylish speakeasy-style bar afterwards (this is a great trick since the place takes no reservations and packs out, but eating upstairs exponentially increases the liklihood of nabbing a table). The best seats are at the bar, where the bartenders put on quite a show mixing up exotic cocktails, though comfy armchairs in hidden alcoves are great for when you’re on a date.
