The cunningly-crafted décor and achingly cool atmosphere at this duo of Japanese restaurants is only what you’d expect from the good folks who brought us Zuma. The concept is very similar: super stylish Japanese food in an equally swish setting. A tad formulaic, but hey if it ain’t broke… Roka’s speciality is its robata grill, with dishes like the black cod marinated in yuzu miso and lamb cutlets with Korean spices absolute must orders. Be warned though, the portions are dainty and the prices eye-popping. The fact that the place is still always packed says something about the quality of the food. The Fitzrovia branch is a fave brunch spot on weekends with well-heeled locals, while for a long time the Canary Wharf branch was one of the few decent places to eat in London’s commercial hinterland.
