Just on the wrong side of Charlotte Street where Fitzrovia starts to get grungy and student-y again, sophisticated Salt Yard with its deliberately understated grey facade still manages to stand out with its sophisticated style. The grown-up Italian tapas is popular with the after-work crowd who fill the banquettes, crowd round the bar and tumble out onto the street-side benches of an evening. The feel can get a bit corporate and cramped, but a couple of glasses of wine or sherry later this just provides a pleasant buzz. The menu changes frequently, but always has a generous array of charcuterie to pare with generous glasses of wine, as well as a mouth-watering array of different light bites. The signature dish of fried courgette flowers stuffed with goat’s cheese and drizzled with honey, is the perfect mix of sweet and salty, crisp and gooey.
